Farmland Camp

Farmland Camp (Semberong Lake, Johor)

Farmland Camp lies within the largest farming institution in Johor, the Agricultural Institute (Taman Haiwan). It overlooks the largest lake in the state, Tasek Semberong. The farm and lake are a third the size of Singapore.

Farmland Camp is located 13 km from the town of Kluang and 8 km from Ayer Hitam, Johor. It is easily accessible via the North-South highway. It is less than 2 hours by coach from Singapore.

Here you will find rabbits in their hutches, cows in their milking parlor and the famous ‘Selembu’, a bovine breed that is a cross between a male Seladang and domestic cattle, the only such animals in the world. Sheep, goats and sambar deer are also raised.

All the animals are confined within fenced ranches and visitors can safely watch these gentle animals behaving naturally. Interspersed between ranches are pockets of rainforest, deliberately left intact.

A vast variety of birds is harboured in the farmland, forest pockets and among the profusion of aquatic plants in the lake. It is a birdwatcher’s delight.

For recreation, there is the thrill of horse riding, fishing, boating and canoeing on the lake. A barbecue by the lake while watching the sun set over the water is an ideal way to end the day.

For the more energetic, a climb up Gunong Lambak (510m) through tropical rainforest can be a rewarding experience. On a clear day at the summit, you can see all of the nearby town of Kluang and beyond.

Excursions outside the camp are an option. Tours to a traditional soya sauce factory, tea processing factory, durian and pineapple plantation can be organised. With ample time a visit to an organic rice farm in Kahang can also be arranged.
